Hi,

I can't print to an lpd://server/queue print server running under AIX. Printer status is "connected from port 515" until the printer is disables/enabled. I tried different queues. It's cups-1.1.19 on a gentoo linux.

Printing to socket:, smb:, or another lpd: server running linux/cupd-lpd is fine, so it looks like the client installation is ok.

Printing to the same server works with other clients running cups-1.1.14 or earlier. The server has no password or firewall/IP/port restrictions.

Please what means the error code of "[Job 10] lpd_command returning 48"?

Hi,
I am in same trouble, and discovered what is happening !!

Whem in command line, under root I can write to that printer cause whith root we get suid root, and them the port is privileged, under 1023.
Whem I try to set the printer in the web interface, and send a test page, the aix answer like : not accept the control file, because the port is over 1023, what I saw in Ethereal.
We need to know how to make cups send files to lpd in port < 1023.

To force the lpd backend to use a privileged port, add
"?reserve=yes" (without the quotes) to the device URI string.
